FC Clacton's name will be in the hat on Tuesday lunchtime, but they will be left asking themselves just how they didn't guarantee their place in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup after dominating the game but only drawing with Witham Town in Saturday's Preliminary Round clash at The Austin Arena.
Mekhi McKenzie (pictured) gave the Seasiders a deserved lead on the half hour mark but Oliver Bell restored parity for the visitors eight minutes later and, despite hitting the woodwork on no less than three occasions, Tom Austin's men were unable to find a winner.
So the tie goes back to the Simarco Stadium for the replay, which will take place on Tuesday, 3rd September (7:45pm kick-off).
This means that a new date will be required for our BBC Essex Senior Cup tie against Stanway Rovers. We will confirm that date with you all as soon as possible.
Goals from Mekhi McKenzie, Jake Clowsley and Chris Ribchester sealed a 3-0 Emirates FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round victory over St Margaretsbury at The Austin Arena this afternoon, and earned the Seasiders a Preliminary Round tie at home to BetVictor North Division side Witham Town in a fortnight's time.
McKenzie got the ball rolling by opening the scoring in the first minute of the match and after Clowsley marked his first appearance of the season by doubling the home side's lead on 68 minutes, heading home Charlie Thompson's deep cross at the back post, Chris Ribchester powered home a header from a corner two minutes from time to book our place in the next round.
As a result of our progress in the FA Cup this afternoon, our Thurlow Nunn Premier Division match at home to Woodbridge Town, which had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, 24th August, has been postponed. A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.
FC Clacton are delighted to announce that Austin Heating & Electrical Services are to sponsor our ground for the coming season, which will now be known as the Austin Arena.
This is an opportunity many local Clubs have seized upon in recent years & something we have been considering for a while.
So we were very pleased when Austin Heating agreed & it is exactly the reputable, local company that we want to work with.
There is already a relationship with the club, being the family business of Tom Austin, our First team manager, & we will look to build upon this over the coming season & hopefully beyond.
Speaking on behalf of the Club, Stephen Andrews said “A huge welcome & thank you to Austin Heating, we can’t wait for the League to commence & to welcome everyone to the Austin Arena - starting at 3pm this Saturday at home in our opening match against Stowmarket!”
On behalf of Austin Heating & Electrical Services, Steve Austin said “We are absolutely delighted to be able to support our local Club with this sponsorship. Clacton had a great season last year & we look forward to building on that in the coming months & welcoming everyone to the Austin Arena!”
