Wivenhoe Town vs FC Clacton U9’s

Sunday February 19th 2012 – 10.00AM – Wivenhoe FC

After a couple of weeks away from the matches, due to the deluge of snow, aided by the freezing weather conditions, the lads were keen to get back to their fixtures, and the march toward the top of the table.  With only a few points between the top four clubs, there is everything to play for!

On a bright and sunny morning, the whistle blew just after 10am and we charged straight in giving no quarter to Wivenhoe,  when at just 30 seconds on the clock, Jake Mayes has a blistering run down the left wing, runs across goal and fires the ball in, deflecting off the keeper.  What a great early start to the match putting us 0-1 up!

FC Clacton play some beautiful passing football, and easily open up the Wivenhoe defence and spend a lot of time in their box, with efforts from Joshua King and Reuben Cowler being denied by some excellent work by the opposition keeper.  We test their keeper many times, from both Jake Mayes and Reuben Cowler just going wide, and some fantastic one touch football between Joshua, Reuben and back again but only to be denied at the last moment.  At 13 minutes in, we fire a ball into the box, which the keeper pushes away, hitting a Wivenhoe player for a hand-ball.  Reuben Cowler steps up and confidently puts the ball away to put us 0-2 up!

Next goal kick for Wivenhoe sees Jake Mayes win the ball from the half way line and making an attempt to fire into the goal, but is deflected by a defender, but Joshua King steps in to collect for a one on one with the keeper who dives for the ball, but King dummies the keeper and finishes with premiership class to put us 0-3 up!  We dominate the remainder of the first half, with one more credible attempt by Ryan Csaforda just going wide before the whistle went.

Off we go for the second half, and we press Wivenhoe hard and we knew it would not be long before we saw another goal, despite loads of attempts from us, but we didn’t have to wait too long!  At 31 minutes, Keelan Gearey makes a run down the right wing, passes off to Patrick Graham who shoots, but is denied, but Keelan is there to collect the rebound, and passes the ball across the box to Ryan Csaforda who is ready and waiting – he pulls the trigger and hits the net, putting us at 0-4 up!

The FC Clacton lads are showing excellent team work, and playing lovey clean, skilful and beautiful passing football and it shows as we dominate once again, and nothing demonstrates that more when from the restart, our midfield attack and own the ball releasing Reuben Cowler on a fast run down the left wing, past a defender and firing one home past the keeper, and all within 30 seconds of the last goal.  0-5 up and we look like we are in a strong position.

Not only 2 minutes later, Patrick Graham and Reuben Cowler exchange a lovely one-two into the box and firing into the woodwork, could this pressure produce more goals?  The answer to that question is yes, and at 34 minutes in, a great run down the left wing from Reuben supplies a lovely cross in to waiting Patrick Graham who cooly scores, putting the score line at 0-6 to us!

Again, at the restart we win the ball once again, and Rueben who now owns the left wing, makes a blistering run and fires another past the keeper – making him a hat-trick hero for the match and putting us at 0-7t to us!  Well done Reuben!

Wivenhoe from the restart make a great run on goal, and takes our keeper on in one-on-one and our keeper Harrison Walsham stops him in his tracks!  The same player makes another hard run and shoots from distance, giving the home team a consolation goal and the setting the score-line at 1-7!

A last gasp run and effort on goal by Jake Mayes, and the resultant excellent save from the Wivenhoe keeper closes the match.

Firstly, can we thank the players and manager of Wivenhoe in their hospitality at today’s game.

Well done to the lads of FC Clacton U9’s, we played fantastic, fast and elegant football today and the score line is a testament to that – and another three points and getting close and closer to that number one spot in the league!

We can do it – we can win the league playing the football we did today!  Well done everyone!
