FC Clacton U9's vs Little Oakley 3rd Round of East League Cup - 11.30am Rush Green Bowl After a long Christmas break from football, the lads were keen to get back into the action, and how better with round 3 of the East League Under 9’s League Cup. We knew the match would be tough, against Little Oakley, but we strode out with confidence that we could win a place in the quarter finals! The whistle blew, and we were straight into the action, pushing hard into the Little Oakley half, and Mitchell Kill taking an early strike (20 seconds), and their keeper making a superb save! This is followed up again a minute later with another attempt from Kill but denied only for Harrison Lewis to hit the post – but this is good early pressure from the home team. Another attack at 3 minutes in, from new signing Josh but we are stopped again – would we ever score? Josh breaks again at 5 minutes when supplied with a great lob from Mitchell Kill for a one on one with the keeper, who bravely charges forward and clears, but Reuben Cowler tries a left footer and the keeper stops this again! Another attempt from a cornerwe win, and we just cannot seem to hit the net, but at 10 minutes the ball is cleared from the Little Oakley goal line and falls to the feet of Jake Mayes who delivers a perfect lobbed ball hitting the cross bar, into the net and bouncing back out! Just to be sure, Mitchell Kill living up to his name, uses his killer instinct and puts it away to diminish any doubt. This gives us an early 1-0 advantage. Quickly from the restart, Little Oakley come back and run on goal, but our keeper Harrison Walsham tips it wide to make it safe and Little Oakley do not really make any further impression on the proceedings and it shows at 18 minutes when a great throw in from Ryan Csaforda lands by Josh who provides a neat flick on for Reuben Cowler who takes the ball all the way into the box, laying it off for Mitchell Kill how coolly slides it past the keeper – putting is 2-0 up! Reuben tries one last attempt, but Oakley’s excellent keeper stops this again and the whistle blows for half time. Off we go for the second half, but despite some good play from both sides, Oakley don’t test our lads to any great degree, with only a couple of attempts on our goal, but these are easily dispatched. We also get some of our subs into the game, Leon Dutton, Keelan Gearey and Patrick Graham but at the final whistle we end the game victorious 2-0! Well done lads, we are through to the quarter finals of the league cup, which is a superb achievement for the team and the club! Thanks also go out to Little Oakley for a great match, and for travelling to our home ground. Go Seasiders!!!! |
