Not quite sure how we lost this one!
By Neutral observer.

A much improved display from Clacton after the dross of recent weeks. Despite the improvement we still returned home pointless from our travels to Norfolk.

The team had a much better balance and shape to it, with Matt Cripps returning to the centre of defence alongside Tommy Austin and Lee Barrett moving to full back from his recent central midfield roll. There was no Matt Waters, Joe Martin, Louie Newland or Danny Smith and Josh Grimes made a cameo appearance on his return from University.

To say the first 30 minutes was one way traffic would be an insult to town road planners. The home side barely got out of their half during this period whilst FCC produced wave after wave of attack, although, in fairness, without really testing Matt Webster in the home goal. A spell of six corners in successive minutes showed the dominance FCC had, and from one of these corners Webster had to make a top quality save when one of his own defenders sliced an attempted clearance. Kevin Coyle and Aaron Condon had the beating of their full backs and we constantly got behind them, although the latter's insistence on shooting from acute angles instead of squaring across the box meant that more opportunities were wasted than created.

With the clock ticking towards the half hour mark, Diss went ahead with their first real forray into FCC territory when a brilliant 60 yard crossfield ball from centre back Brendan Foley found the right winger in space and his cross into the area was headed home off the far post by Jamie Speller. What appeared to be a decent goal was somewhat tarnished when the FCC defenders said that Speller made a hash of his header and it in fact came off his shoulder which completely wrong footed keeper Ed Wootten.

For the remainder of the first period things were reasonably even with both sides pressing but neither creating any clear cut chances.

The second period saw more of the same with FCC in the ascendency for the most part although Diss did have a couple of moments. Andy Taylor changed the formation to 4-3-3 from 4-4-2 with Aaron Condon joining Karl Andrade and James Dunkley (later replaced by Josh Grimes) up top. In your scribe's humble opinion this was a tactical error as there was now no width with Kevin Coyle playing in a central roll and Condon up front. It was from this point onwards that Diss finally created a couple of chances, although one of their efforts almost hit the corner flag whilst substitute George Watts-Sturrock missed an open goal from six yards having been set up by an astute Lee Barrett pass!!

Try as they might, FCC couldn't find the back of the net and returned empty handed for their efforts.

Nine opinions were sought for the FCC Man of the Match and SEVEN different players were named by the supporters. That just shows how well the guys played.
